General

What is a CV? What is a Foundry?

CV is an abbreviation for curriculum vitæ, which is Latin for “course of life.” Much like a resume, a CV contains a list of job qualifications and work experience, but is usually longer and more detailed, containing publications, presentations, and other related information.

A foundry is a shop that produces metal castings. In particular, type foundries manufactured metal and wood typefaces for printing presses. Today, digital type foundries produce fonts—the digital manifestations of typefaces that we use in to produce documents of all sorts, including your resume or CV.

Hence, the name refers to the process through which we mold your contact information and other details into a high quality resume. Whether you are creating a CV or resume, CV Foundry is here to help you do it with style and professionalism.

Why should I pay for this?

CV Foundry offers a very affordable tool for producing professional-quality resumes and CVs that will save you time and effort. Resumes written in a standard word processor cannot match the quality in terms of typesetting of resumes produced by our site, even if you purchased the same professional fonts we use. We take care of the technical details for you automatically, so that you can spend your time being productive doing something else, like focusing on the actual content of your resume.

Producing and hosting this service requires time and money. By charging a small fee, we are able to provide a higher quality and more reliable service without worrying about spam or cluttering the site and your resume with advertisements, as most free sites do.

How can I get support?

Accounts

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, bank transfers, and payments from PayPal balances. Although PayPal processes secure payments for us, note that you do not need a PayPal account.

How do I renew if my account has expired?

You will receive a renewal link via email before your account expires. This link will remain valid to renew your account even after it expires. If you lose this link, you can renew by visiting the homepage and logging in with your username and password.

How do I close my account?

If you simply let your account expire, it will be marked as inactive but allow you the opportunity to renew at a later time, should you need our services again. Otherwise, send us an email from the email address associated with your account and we will be happy to close your account and delete all associated data.

Data Management

What export formats do you support?

We allow you to export your resume using one of many templates or themes in several formats including PDF, published HTML, standalone HTML, and plain text.

  • PDF files are the best choice for printing as well as sharing in most professional circles.

  • Published HTML produces a web page that we host for you, benefiting from our extensive library of web fonts, and a corresponding PDF file that we also host. A link to the PDF version will also appear at the bottom of the page.

  • Standalone HTML export, including all styling, is helpful for creating your own website. However, you must have the corresponding fonts installed on your computer to view it properly (we are not licensed to redistribute them). This is truly a standalone HTML file: if you include an optional photo with your resume, it will be encoded and embedded within the HTML file itself.

  • Plain text export is extremely useful for cutting and pasting in web forms for online applications. We have even made an effort to make the plain text version look nice on its own.

Security

Is my data secure?

The site was designed from the ground up with security in mind. All data you send to and receive from the site is transmitted over a secure SSL connection, using high-grade encryption, for your security and for the protection of your personal information. Passwords are stored using one-way encryption. We never see or store your actual password and therefore, even if someone managed to access our database, they still could not gain access to your password. All payments are handled securely by PayPal, so we do not have access to and do not store any of your personal financial information.

CVs and Resumes

Why don’t you offer more color options?

We do! Although we only provide a sampling of pre-built templates with colors, you can easily create your own fully custom theme using your favorite colors and any of our layouts and font themes.

Note, however, that if you expect your resume to be printed often, you’ll probably want to provide a black and white PDF to ensure that it will look sharp and crisp when printed on a high-resolution laser printer, which is what many of your potential employers or professional contacts are likely to be using.
